This is how the new AR mapping tasks of Pokémon GO work
These AR mapping tasks will be available at some PokeStops and Gyms. They can be easily distinguished because will have an “AR MAPPING” label and a special design as you can see in the video:
When the user detects it they will have to use the AR scan function to begin their task of investigating and scanning their environment. However, it's not as easy as it sounds, as you'll need toe meet certain requirements to get the perfect scan.
For example, keep a constant movement speed and always the same distance from the object, keep a scan of about 20 seconds taking the whole object as the center of the image, and get a 360 shot degrees would be ideal. You will find all these recommendations and instructions in the Niantic Help Center.
To inform that you have completed your mapping you will only have to touch the arrow of the task. And of course, you will be rewarded and the satisfaction of helping Niantic create new AR experiences.
Eligible Users and Compatible Devices
These AR research tasks are only available to users who have already reached level 20, and can only perform one per day .
A detail to take into account is that the Niantic Kid are not considered within this new function, even if they meet the level 20 requirement. But they will be taken into account in the future, just like the rest of the users. And as for the compatible devices, they will have to meet these requirements:
- Android: Android 7.0 or higher compatible with Google Play Services for AR
- iOS: iPhone 6S and new devices running iOS 11 or higher
