How to save and recover your WhatsApp messages in Google Drive

How to create a full copy of WhatsApp on Google Drive

To save all WhatsApp content in Google Drive, follow the steps below.

1. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner, on the main screen of the application. Next, click on Settings.

3. Go to Backup.
4. Click on the Save button to start the copy.

For example, you have the possibility to set the copy frequency If you have important conversations on a daily basis, we recommend that you select the option Daily You can also select the Only when I tap “Save” option to do it manually. On the other hand, if you have logged in with several Google accounts, WhatsApp allows you to choose which one to make the copy to. Likewise, it is possible to define whether the copy should be done only with a Wi-Fi connection (to avoid the consumption of data from your mobile line) or if you can also use mobile data for this operation. Finally, check the Include videos option to include the videos in your copy. Note that this last setting substantially increases the size of the copy.

How to restore a WhatsApp backup from Google Drive

The restore option is available the moment you log in to WhatsApp from a new device. You need to make sure that you are signed in to the correct Google account. When recovering a backup, the last one created is always used, making it impossible to view a history of them. In any case, here is how you can recover all the content of your WhatsApp stored in Google Drive.

1. Start WhatsApp and enter your phone to log in.
2. After entering the code received by SMS, in the pop-up dialog click on continue.
3. Automatically, WhatsApp will ask us if we want to restore the backup. In addition, it will indicate the date of the copy, the account from which it is obtained and the size. Tap Restore to continue.

After this process, almost magically, all your chats will appear just as you left them at the time you made the copy. Text messages are restored immediately. This is not the case in the case of photos and videos, which WhatsApp downloads in the background and gradually stores on our device.
