Do you want to enjoy Twitch video games from your mobile? Although the web version of Twitch seems the most complete option to not miss details, its app also has interesting functions and some extras.
So pay attention, we'll show you some tricks to get the most out of the Twitch app on your Android mobile.
Listen to Twitch broadcasts with the screen off
I know, nobody wants to listen to Twitch games like a radio. But you'll appreciate knowing this trick in some situations, like if you're driving, working, or have a bad internet connection, and you don't want to miss that game you've been waiting for.
To put streaming into Audio Mode, just follow these steps:
- Go to the Settings of the chosen broadcast (the cog wheel above the player)
- Choose “Display Options” and select “Audio Only”
- Do not forget to click "Apply" for the change to be implemented
When you return to the transmission, you will see that the streaming disappeared but you have the audio active, and you keep the chat. To restore the display, you don't need to go back to Settings, you just have to deactivate the “Audio Only” mode from the player.
Watch Twitch streams in the background
Want to watch streams while doing another task on your mobile? The Twitch app allows you to do this with a simple gesture. You just have to minimize the transmission screen, sliding the tab that you see on the left side of the player.
You will have the mini player available both within the app and in any section of the device. So you can browse other sections of the app, such as "Explore" or take a look at the channels you follow. Or you can scroll through other mobile apps without losing detail of the transmission.
For this dynamic to work, you have to activate the “Picture in Picture” for Twitch on your mobile. If the app does not give you the option to activate it, follow these steps:
- Go to Mobile Settings and scroll to Applications >> Manage applications
- In the list of applications search for Twitch and scroll to Advanced Settings
- Activate “Picture in picture” as you see in the image above.
This may depend on the configuration of your mobile, but the idea is that you enable the option that allows the Twitch mini player to be always visible.
Avoid being disturbed by being invisible
When we connect to Twitch we automatically appear as connected. And this can attract the attention of those friends who want to comment all the time on the transmissions they see, or worse, take the opportunity to tell you about their lives.
So if you are planning a relaxing time watching your favorite broadcasts, you can choose to stay invisible. To do this, go to the Account section and scroll to “Set presence”.
You also have the option to set that you are “Busy”, but you know how some friends are… «Are you very busy? I annoy you for just a second...» So it's better to go unnoticed.
Save mobile data on transmissions
Twitch is one of those applications that is prohibited when we are using mobile data. But if you are in “an emergency” because you don't want to miss the transmission of your favorite channel, you can apply some settings to reduce data consumption.
One of the changes you can apply is the one we saw in the first point: set the Audio Mode. But if you don't want to give up streaming, you can lower the quality a bit.
To do this, go to Settings (in the broadcast player) and you will see that it gives you the possibility to choose different quality options. You can find an intermediate point that allows you to enjoy streaming without using up your entire data plan.
On the other hand, another option that you should not forget is the one found in your account Settings. Go to Settings >> Preferences and choose the option “Autoplay video”. Turn off “Mobile data and Wi-Fi” to avoid problems when you enter with mobile data.
Block chat for strangers
You may like to participate in public broadcast chats and interact with other users in that context, but you don't want to be bothered with private chatsAlthough Twitch does not have messaging app functions, it does have an option that allows users to write privately: whispers.
To block “strange whispers” just follow these steps:
- Go to your profile and choose Account Settings
- Find the “Security and Privacy” section
- Scroll down to the last option “Block whispers from strangers” and turn that option on.
As you see in the option description, this only applies to those who are not enabled to interact with you.
Use filters to find the most popular broadcasts
Has it happened to you that you are looking for a channel to watch and end up in a transmission with a few viewers? It may be that the stream has just started, has a low following, or is failing to connect with viewers. In any case, it's too boring.
To prevent this from happening to you, use the filters to find the busiest streams. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to the Browse tab and choose the "Live Channels" section
- Opens “Sort and Filter”
- Search by tag for the type of broadcast you are interested in (multiplayer, Battle Royale mode, etc)
- And then choose “Viewers” as the way to sort the results.
This way, you'll see the streams that have the most viewers first, and you make sure the game is interesting enough to keep the attention of thousands of users.
Create clips of the best plays on Twitch
Have you seen an amazing play that you would like to see again? Or saw a new trick you don't want to lose sight of? You don't need to have third-party apps installed to record those memorable moments of the transmissions, since you can use the clips.
Twitch allows to record small snippets of broadcasts to save or share So when you see something you'd like to have recorded, select the icon Clip in the player and automatically recorded 25 seconds before, and 5 seconds after your action.
If you are not satisfied with those 26 seconds, because you want to reduce the clip or because what you wanted to record is not in that period of time, don't worry. Just select "Edit" and you'll have up to a minute of recording to find just the seconds you're interested in and trim them for your clip.
