The Government of Spain promised that the new app to track COVID 19 would be available today, and the truth is that they have complied. Of course, they have done it halfway because the app, currently, is of little use. This new app, promoted by the Government of Spain, makes it possible to track infections efficiently and will allow us to know if we have come across (closely) with those infected with COVID 19to find out if we are at risk of contagion.
The app began its testing phase a few weeks ago in some CC.AA. but the truth is that today it does practically nothing (what we do know is that in that beta phase it has improved much of its operation). On Twitter we have seen how different influencers encouraged us to install the app but the truth is that at the moment it is not very useful. We can already download and install Radar Covid on Android and iPhone phones, but at the moment it does not do everything it promises.
How to install Radar COVID on your Android or iPhone mobile?
To install this app on your mobile it will be as easy as going to the relevant application store, App Store for iPhone, or Google Play on Android; and look for Radar COVID. If you do not want to pass this job here we leave you the download links of both applications.
- Install COVID Radar on iPhone.
- Install COVID Radar on Android.
Install the application like any other and grant it the permissions it requests to be able to use it. It's free, of course.
What can COVID Radar do?
What the Radar COVID application does is track all users who carry it on their mobile and know if they have come across any someone infected with COVID19. In this way, we will be able to know if we have been in danger during the day ( although we do not know who the person we have come across is, because it is completely anonymous). All this will help us to know if we should take precautions, isolate ourselves or if the Spanish he alth service has to do a test to determine if we are infected.
If the app does not work in your community, you can take the opportunity to familiarize yourself with it (you can use them in Spanish and English, useful for tourists). You can also contribute to the data collection since the app will save information from the last 15 days (they will know who we have come across, and that is already working) . This means that, although until September 15 it does not have the data of those infected, when adding them it will be able to tell you if in the previous days you have come across someone positive.
When will Radar COVID be 100% operational?
The application as such works, and is ready. However, each autonomous community needs to authorize and activate it, while determining some protocols to follow according to all the data provided by the app. Each Autonomous Community will have to establish a code so that those infected can enter the information in the app ( although it will be the he alth authorities who will be able to activate it).
The Government has said that the application would be available on September 15 throughout Spain, although as of August 10 it could already be activated in some communities that show they are prepared to work with it.At the time of writing these lines (August 10), it is not available in any autonomous community.
However, as we have advanced, the app is already relating the contacts we have with other people, so it is useful to install it. To offer all this information, the application uses Bluetooth technology and some encrypted keys, which we will not see or consume too much battery on our mobile.
