How to create a PIN-protected folder with Files by Google
Table of contents:
Files by Google is a well-known application that allows us to organize the files that we have on our mobile phones and that has a powerful tool to free up space. It was launched in 2017 to help users in countries like India, Brazil or Nigeria to free up space on low-end mobiles that are often used in these markets. However, the application has been quite successful over the years in most markets, reaching 150 million monthly users according to official figures. This figure could increase considerably with the new functionality that is about to arrive. This is the possibility to create folders protected by PIN Let's see how it works.
Google Files will allow you to protect folders using an access PIN
Last June, an analysis of files in Google's Files app revealed that a new feature would be coming soon that would give you the ability to create secure folders protected by a four-digit PIN This new feature has now started rolling out in beta, which means it will be rolling out to everyone in the coming weeks.
According to those responsible for the Google Files application, this function is intended to protect personal files when using a shared device. And it is that, in many parts of the world, sharing the mobile with spouses, siblings or children is very common.
The Secure Folder feature is supported on devices running Android 8.0 and above Once available, create a folder I'm sure it will be really easy. All we have to do is open the Google Files application and enter the Explore option, located at the bottom of the screen.
Next, we will search for the file that we want to protect and click on the down arrow on the right side. From the options that appear we will select "move to secure folder" We will do this with all the files that we want to be protected.
Once the secure folder has been created, to see it we will have to go back to the Explore option and a new section will appear called CollectionsHere we will have our secure folder. To access it we will have to enter the four-digit PIN that we have configured when creating this secure folder.
The secure folder locks as soon as we switch to another application, having to re-enter the PIN even when Google Files is running in background. This ensures that no one can access your content if they don't know your unlock PIN.
We have verified it and, at least for now, this function is not available in Spain. It is expected to reach the entire world in the coming weeks.
