What happened to my Google Photos app? We tell you all the changes
Table of contents:
Where's the pinwheel in Google Photos? It's still there, but with a different look. And it is not the only thing that changes in the new version of Google Photos that Google itself has presented. Changes and new features are coming to enjoy your albums and memories. Now this unlimited gallery of photos and videos in the cloud is updated. Here we tell you everything that is to come in the new version of this tool
New icon and new design for Google Maps
You may have already seen it in the initial image of this article, but Google has reinvented the Google Photos wind spinner It is still a grinder, beware, but under the layer of exacerbated minimalism to which Google has us increasingly accustomed. Flat colors, without shadows or highlights, simpler rounded shapes and just as recognizable. Was necessary? Possibly not. But the change, while noticeable, won't make us lose sight of the app we all have on Android.
Inside things also change. Google Photos continues to have a lower bar with the sections of the application. So we can jump between the gallery, searches and albums. Three unique sections instead of the current four. And it is that everything is more simplified and united. We will not only see the collection of photos and memories in the photos tab, some of our albums will also appear. So we will have to get used to knowing what is in each new tab to learn how to move around the application. But beware, there are more changes.
Photo Maps
Now Google justifies in a somewhat more visible way knowing where and when you have taken each of the photos that you save to Google Photos. And it is that in the second tab you will find a heat world map. Or one that simulates the design of the heat maps of the atmospheric agencies. Thanks to the colors you will see the greater or lesser density of photographs taken in one or other parts of the planet. Thus, by sliding your finger, you can see a quick thumbnail taken in the area.
It is a most curious tool. Especially if you travel around the world, of course. Although, if you don't, the map will continue to mark all your photos to have a location scheme for all of them. Also, it is not necessary that all your photos from Google Photos have the location attached to the file. From the application you can also manually add this data to be added to the map.
And note that this map is also temporary. At the bottom you can browse a grid of photos by date. As you move in this section the map pointer also changes to reflect where those screenshots were taken. Wow, you have a interactive map of places and dates to relocate your photos.
Memories take on more importance
In Google Photos they want to have their own version of Instagram Stories They already have them in the Photos tab of the current application, before of the redesign. Thanks to them you can revisit your photos from these same days but from one or more years ago. Well, they also change format.
Now they occupy a slightly larger and more striking space at the top. They thus differ from the Instagram format. And they give more reason for us to revisit them. Even more so knowing that there are more than 120 million users who use this feature per month within Google Photos. So it's worth reframing them and putting them in a privileged place.
