Google Maps is the application preferred by most Android and iOS users, to be able to navigate to your destination without major worries Despite not being perfect, we also think that it is the best solution to drive your car everywhere reliably and accurately. When it came out a few years ago, Google warned drivers about how dangerous it was to use, but today it has become much more reliable than other conventional navigators that we thought were much more accurate, like the classic TomTom ones.
There is a problem: imagine that you are in your car, driving hundreds of kilometers away from your home, and surely you have the music playing loud or have your mobile connected to the radio system of your car. It is something common, and more when services like Spotify or YouTube Music have prospered so much in recent years. We'd like to show you how to unify all this and make it possible for you to receive GPS notifications without having to leave the application, but also without losing the possibility of controlling any of your favorite music players.
How to control music on your mobile without leaving Google Maps?
This option has been available on the Google Maps platform since 2018, but now a very important service has been added, YouTube Music. To date, it was only compatible with the streaming music services Spotify and Google Play Music. As you know, the latter has been forgotten and has made Google work at full speed to be able to integrate its relay into the most used GPS navigation platform.
In the following lines we explain how to configure this option.
- Enter the Google Maps application and click on the top right, right on your profile picture.
- Scroll down to where it says Settings and look for the Navigation Settings option.
- When you click this section scroll until you find the setting “Show media playback controls“.
This option is disabled by default and you will have to mark it as active to be able to follow the tutorial. Once you do, you must click on the following “Default multimedia application” and select Spotify, YouTube Music or even DeezerYou will have to select one of the 3.
From now on, once this setting is activated, you will have a new icon on the Google Maps navigation screen where you will see the streaming music service that you have selected By clicking on it you will have the option to control your current playlist or the one you were listening to when closing the application directly in the app, without leaving it and having the possibility of your mobile automatically lowers the volume of your music while you receive any indication.
This setting is really useful and not only because you can control music from your mobile but also because it allows you, thanks to integrations like Spotify Connect, to control the songs you're listening to even elsewhere. This means that if you have a radio with Spotify but it does not have GPS and you are using your mobile to navigate, you will be able to control the music from your mobile directly and without having to go to your radio The latter is actually more of a silly option than a real utility, because if you have music integrated into your car, you may be able to control it from the steering wheel controls. Despite this, this option is still interesting because it broadens the control possibilities in certain specific cases and that, as always, will be really positive for users.
Anything that adds control options and news to the most used navigation platform will always be welcome.
