Although the initial boom may have passed, the truth is that Pokémon GO continues to have a loyal community of players behind it. That is why the company responsible for the game, Niantic, maintains an interesting rhythm of updates to its debut. Today the creators of Pokémon GO announced two new features coming very soon that will significantly improve the Augmented Reality used in the game.
An even more realistic augmented reality
As you well know, one of the great attractions of Pokémon GO is that it uses Augmented Reality to place the Pokémon that we must hunt in the real world. This makes the game much more fun and engaging. I'm sure that throughout the years that the game has been published, you've seen many pictures of trainers with their favorite Pokémon.
Now Niantic wants to improve this system by taking advantage of the latest Augmented Reality features that include devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S9, the Samsung Galaxy S10, the Google Pixel 3 or the Google Pixel 4. The creators of the game have announced that they are developing Reality Blending, a new function that will allow Pokémon to be integrated into the world in a more realistic way
With Reality Blending Pokémon will be able to move behind objects, either partially or completely. That is, we will be able to observe our Pokémon from behind a tree, a shelf or even from the sofa.
This new Augmented Reality feature will at this time be tested on a small number of random Trainers running certain Android devices, such as the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy S10, Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 4. Once tested on these devices, Niantic ensures that it will deploy the new Reality Blending functionality on more devices.
3D Gyms and PokéStops
Another novelty that Niantic is working on is the development of a dynamic 3D map with PokéStops and Gyms For In order for players to assist Niantic in the development of this new feature, an optional feature called PokéStop Scan has been placed, which will be available to trainers level 40 through early June.
This feature will allow Trainers to upload videos of real locations with PokéStops and Gyms to Pokémon GO, which will help game creators game on mapping. The idea is that each user records a video of a real location from all possible angles, but that it lasts a maximum of 10 seconds. These videos will be used to generate dynamic 3D maps of these locations.
These two new features that Niantic is developing for Pokémon GO will reach all players with compatible mobile phones in the coming months.
