Facebook is rolling out a new update to Messenger that will prevent users from being caught by scammers. This new dynamic will take advantage of the potential of Facebook's AI to alert any sign of scam in chats.
To do this, the Facebook algorithm will take into account a series of factors that coincide with the pattern of suspicious activity within the platform.
This is how the Facebook Messenger alert system works
The Facebook algorithm can detect a fake or fraudulent account by analyzing a series of suspicious activities, for example, if a mass mailing of contact requests is made in a short time. From there, Facebook can take a number of actions.
And one of them is alert users when someone from these suspicious accounts seeks to contact them through Messenger. In that case, Facebook will show a popup window with an alert message as shown in the image:
The user will be warned of the situation, and given options to block or ignore it. And of course, you can also use the rest of Facebook's options to report an account.
One of the goals of this Facebook Messenger update is to protect people under 18 years of age.Facebook already has a series of measures to prevent the interaction of unknown users with minors, and now this dynamic is enhanced with special alerts in Messenger.
In this case, Facebook will also show them an alert in the chat notifying them of the situation and showing some details of why it is considered a dangerous interaction. And as you can see in the image (at the beginning of the article), the option to block it from the chat window itself is also added.
This new dynamic of alerts will warn users of possible scams and deception before these suspicious interactions become a headache. So if you see some of these warnings in your Messenger chats, don't think twice and block the user.
This feature has already started rolling out to Android and will roll out to iOS users starting next week.
