Table of contents:
Now that we are going to spend a lot of time at home, YouTube wants us to do it by watching videos from its platform without stopping. After all, it is what the well-known streaming platform has always sought. To achieve this, Google has been testing new features for the YouTube application for several months, such as channel previews in the comments section or the new filters for the subscription feed. All of them are now joined by the new Explore tab that we will find in the app for both Android and iOS
This is not actually a brand new tab. Explore replaces the Trending tab, which was already in the YouTube app. In the new option we will find videos that are trending, but that are classified in the most popular categories on YouTube. These are Music, Video Games, News, and Movies.
The Explore category comes to the YouTube app
Google has already rolled out this new category, so it should be available on all Android phones and also on iPhone If you enter YouTube and it still does not appear, you can go to the application store and check if there is a new version of the YouTube application that you have not downloaded.
We have checked the YouTube application on Android and the new tab already appears. The Explore tab can be found in the toolbar at the bottom of the YouTube application It is located between the Home Page and Subscriptions tabs. At the moment we don't have many categories, but it stands to reason that YouTube will add more pages and video types to the new Explore tab. Everything will depend on the success of this new section.
If you don't choose any specific category, at the bottom you will have a selection of popular videos. Although it is very possible that they do not have much to do with your tastes, at least for now. On the other hand, if you click on one of the categories you will see only videos that belong to this category. And one very interesting thing is that we can subscribe to the categories as if we were doing it in a channel.
So while the update removes the Trending tab entirely, the content of the Trending tab is still an important part of the new Explore tab. What do you think of the new section of the YouTube application? Are you interested in the videos that appear in the explore option or do you only pay attention to your subscriptions? Leave us your impression in the comments.
