Do you use Google Maps with Android Auto? The map app for the Android in-car interface is somewhat more limited than the original app. Mainly because you don't have as many options for the trip. One of these options is the one that allows us to download the maps to use the GPS offline. Fortunately, there is a little trick to save internet data with Android Auto and Google Maps.
First of all it will be necessary to have the Google Maps application downloaded on your mobile, as well as the Android Auto app. Both can be downloaded for free on Google Play. Then, open the Android Auto app on your mobile and tap on the route icon that appears at the bottom, right next to the phone button. If you have more map apps, like Waze, you'll be asked to select one as the default. Once you have Google Maps open in Android Auto, follow these steps.
Use Google Maps offline
With a WiFi network, search for the route you want to take. For example, from your location to Barcelona. Click on the button that says 'Start route'. Now, swipe on the notification panel and turn off WiFi and mobile data. The Map will have already loaded, and if you follow the route it will indicate the steps correctly. In this way you can save mobile data. Of course, you should know that the content in real time will not be loaded, so it will not inform you of the current traffic, alternative routes or duration, unless they have been loaded before. If we make a detour, if a road is closed or if there is an accident, it will not show us updated alternatives either.
In any case, you can always activate mobile data again from Android Auto and be able to continue browsingn. To do this, stop the car in a safe place and display the mobile notification panel. Then click on the mobile data icon. Wait a few seconds until mobile data is available again and refresh the map.
