First, you need to have a compatible iPhone. La messaging app is being updated on devices running iOS 13 or higher. To check if the new update, with number 2.20.30, is available, you must go to the App Store. Within the application store, click on the icon of your account and refresh the page from the upper area. In the list that says 'Upcoming automatic updates', the WhatsApp app should appear. Click on the button that says update.
Dark mode will be activated automatically. That is, within the application there is no control to activate this mode. That is why this feature is only available on devices with iOS 13.
