Android Auto allows us to connect some of our favorite applications and play them without leaving the app. Some will require a connection to work, but others give us the bonus of taking advantage of its dynamics without spending data.
For example, do you want to listen to your Spotify music from Android Auto without spending data? It is possible by adjusting a few simple details in the app settings and fulfilling an essential requirement.
How to use Spotify without using data
To play music from Spotify at any time, even when you don't have an internet connection, you need a premium account. It doesn't matter which premium plan you have contracted, they all have the function that allows you to download music to listen to it offline
So if you're a Spotify Premium user just follow these steps to make sure your favorite music is available for offline listening:
Go to the playlist you have created and activate the “Download” option, as you can see in the image. The green arrow indicates that the song has already been downloaded and is available for offline listening.
And the same dynamic can be applied to download any album or podcast episode. In the case of the latter, it is not necessary to be premium and they are saved in the library of our Spotify account.
Once you've done this step and downloaded all the content you want to listen to online it's time to move on to the next step.
Setting the Spotify app to Offline Mode
To do this, just go to Settings (from the gear icon) and scroll to Playback >> Offline Mode. Once you activate this option you will see a message at the bottom of the app that says “Spotify is currently in offline mode”.
Once you've done these steps, you're ready to listen to Spotify from Android Auto without spending internet data. But first let's go over some details from the Android Auto app.
Connect Spotify with Android Auto to use them offline
To connect Android Auto with Spotify just follow these steps:
- Go to the Android Auto side menu and choose “Applications for Android Auto” to display all compatible apps from Google Play
- Choose Spotify and it will automatically take you to your downloaded content to play from the Android Auto interface.
From the same Android Auto application you can scroll through all the music or podcast episodes in offline mode. And of course, the content you are currently playing in Android Auto driving mode will always be visible.
This setting is already enough to listen to your Spotify content without spending data. You do not need to touch the data settings of your mobile or the Wi-Fi option, since if you have followed the steps that we discussed in the first section you will have Spotify in offline mode.
One last detail to take into account, for this dynamic to work, is to have activated the option that allows the Spotify app to be displayed on the Android Auto screen. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to Android Auto Settings and scroll to “Customize app menu”
- Search for Spotify in the app list and activate it. Otherwise, it will remain hidden.
- Then restart the Android Auto app for the change to take effect.
So with a few simple steps and a few settings you can listen to music or podcasts from Spotify without spending mobile data or being connected to WiFi.
