Good news for WhtasApp users. The application belonging to Facebook is already implementing the dark mode, a new feature that has been on Android 10 terminals for a while, and that applies darker tones to the interface in order to save battery on AMOLED or OLED panels. WhatsApp is one of the few apps that still doesn't have a dark mode built into the app. But fortunately we can now enjoy this new interface. We teach you how to apply it on your Android mobile.
Before continuing with the process, it is important to note that to get dark mode, you will need to update WhatsApp to its beta version. Although the betas of the messaging app are usually quite stable, there may be important bugs that you would not see in the final version. In any case, you can always roll back to the stable version.
Dark mode is being integrated first into the beta version of WhatsApp The company uses this variant to test all the features before launching them to the public. The interesting thing is that the beta is open to all users, and registering is very simple. It is the first step that we must do if we want to have the dark mode in WhatsApp. To do this, we go to the Google Play Store and in the search box we type 'WhatsApp'. Once inside the app, scroll down and click on the button that says 'Join the beta program'.Confirm the registration and in a few seconds you will receive an update of the app. This makes the stable version of WhatsApp become the test version. Click update to apply the changes. Then check for another app update. Check that the version you have is 2.20.13 onwards. If it doesn't appear when you update, download the APK from here.
How to activate the dark mode in WhatsApp
It's time to turn on dark mode. To do this, you need to go to the app settings. Then, enter the 'Chats' section and in the 'Screen' option, click on 'Theme'. Three options will appear.
- System Default: Changes the tone depending on whether we have dark mode applied on the system.
- Light: WhatsApp white tone.
- Dark: Activates the dark mode, regardless of the theme we have in the system.
You can choose the first or third option to apply the dark mode. Of course, in the first option you must have this mode activated in the system. When you deactivate it, it will return to white. If you want to apply it permanently, choose the last option.
WhatsApp's dark mode changes white colors to more gray tones. It's not a deep dark, as you might expect, but it does bring a much more striking design to the app. If you do not want to sign up for the WhatsApp beta, you should know that this feature could take a few weeks, or even months, to reach the final version. At the moment it is unknown when it will arrive on iOS.
