Table of contents:
Without a doubt, the best thing we have in the Android operating system is its highly diverse customization capacity. We can change the application launcher, its icons, the home screen design and the widgets that we place on it. This time we are focusing on a very specific tool that will allow us to place an icon for direct access to a document, video or photo on the home screen of our phone. What do you want to have a PDF with the bus schedules on the cover of your phone, or a note not to forget? Keep reading that we are going to tell you how to do it, for free and with a very easy-to-use tool.
Shorty, an app to create shortcuts
In the Play Store applications store we find Shorty, a tool that places a shortcut on the home screen of our phone, to any document that we have inside it. The application is free, it is in Spanish and it does not contain any payments inside it, so it can be used by any member of the family without problems. It also has a weight of only 3.2 MB so you can download it while using mobile data, if the need arises.
Once you have it downloaded and installed, we are going to go to the document from which you want to create the shortcut. Forget the app you just downloaded. To go to the document you will need an Android file manager.A good option can be 'Google Files', which we talk about in depth here. Do you already have the file? We continue with the process.
We take the file that we want to place on the main screen of our phone and press the share button, as if we were going to send it to a friend on WhatsApp. In the list of applications that appear, and which are the applications to which you can send the document, look at the one with the Shorty application icon and the phrase 'Pin to home screen '. Press it.
On the next screen, we are going to configure the icon that we will place. We can change the name, the style of the icon, the text inside the icon and its background color. When you have it ready, click on the check in the upper right and that's it. Note, the icon may have created a new screen, so you'll have to drag and drop it on the home screen
