Apps to spy on private Instagram profiles are actually spying on you
Table of contents:
Be careful with what you install on your phone, because you already know that in these times, not everything is gold that glitters. Instagram has now been put in the spotlight because of an app called Ghosty, which takes advantage of the Instagram API to allow people to log into accounts private of this platform.
But how does this app work and why has it been found to be dangerous? Well, what those responsible for it sell, Gosthy, is the possibility of accessing private accounts, in exchange for users sharing their credentials to log in.
But this is not all. In order to use the application you have to invite another person (at least one). It's the only way to gain access to private profiles and, on the part of those responsible for this application, a great way to increase the amount of information available.
Once the user is inside the circle and checks that it is possible to consult information about private profiles, he is curious to see more . And Gosthy feeds this curiosity by offering payment packages to access a series of additional profiles or view ads in exchange for viewing them.
Instagram has taken action on the matter
It is evident that this application somehow violates Instagram's own rules. And those responsible for this social network should give explanations about what happened. But, what attitude has Instagram taken towards this application?
At the moment, they have already started to take measures. The social network has informed Android Police that it has sent a request to those responsible for this application to stop it, since the application is dedicated to displaying private profiles from Instagram without any permission. Neither that of those responsible for the social network, nor that of the users themselves who at some point have believed that, in effect, their account remained in a private mode.
The objective of the application is serious in itself. But it is also that, the fact that to gain access to these profiles have to invite (or rather, recruit) other contacts is highly worrying.
In fact, curious users, to call them something, who accept access to these private profiles, but sell at the same time their soul to hell (in this case to Gosthy), because they grant access to their own data, handing over the credentials so that those responsible for this application can use them as they please.
Gosthy is still available on the Google Play Store
Unfortunately, and despite the fact that Facebook would have taken action on the matter to resolve the problem, the application in question continues to be available in the Google Play Store, the app store for Android.
At least until the moment of writing this article. It must be taken into account that, to make matters worse, this is a very successful application, in the sense that has more than 500,000 downloads. And that Gosthy was released in April.
Luckily, it looks like its availability could end sooner rather than later, as Instagram has already confirmed that the app is in complete violation of the terms of service However, if this application carries so many dangers and blatantly violates the rules, it is difficult to understand how it has survived for so long and is still operating without limitations.
