Table of contents:
If you have to do translations on your computer, you have a very useful and practical resource always at hand: Google Translate. But what if you want to use it when you're in the middle of a trip and you don't have an internet connection? And if you don't have your mobile at hand to use it from there? Well, if you don't trust other Internet translators, there is a formula to have the Google Translator on your computer with the same features as on your mobile
In other words, a translation tool where you can download language packs, find out the pronunciation and many other activities without connection to Internet. Something that can be done on the mobile but not on the computer. Unless you follow these steps.
Downloading Bluestacks
There is a program for the computer that emulates the presence of an Android mobile. In other words, it simulates the operation of an Android mobile directly on the computer, with all the advantages that this entails: having a full physical keyboard, a larger monitor, the power of a computer instead of a mobile... It's called Bluestacks, and it is a free program. So you can get hold of it.
The first thing to do is enter the Bluestacks web page and click on the download button to get hold of its installer.
Once it is downloaded to the computer click on the file and accept to begin installing its latest version.
After waiting a few minutes we can access Bluestacks to start configuring it. We can use our same Google account to have everything as if it were another mobile. The installation and configuration process may take a few minutes, so please be patient.
Installing Google Translate on PC
As if it were any Android mobile, in Bluestacks we will find Google Play Store Click on its icon to access the usual application store . It is possible that, if we have not entered our Google user account before, we have to do it now.
We use the search engine to find Google Translator. When doing so, click on the button Install as if it were a mobile application.
We wait a few seconds while the application is downloaded and installed and that's it. Soon we can click on the button Start to use this translator on the computer.
Set Google Translate offline mode
Now that we have Google Translate working on our PC, we just have to do the same thing we would do on our mobile to to be able to use it offlineThat is, without an Internet connection. A function that Google allows you to use from mobile phones but not in the web version of this tool. With Bluestacks we can take advantage of it.
Open Google Translate. Generally, the first thing that appears is a small window with the two main languages of use: Spanish and English. This window allows you to select an offline translation option. If we activate it we will be ableto download the Spanish and English language packs to translate between these two languages without WiFi or without Internet. We accept and that's it.
But if this small window does not appear or we want to download any other language pack, this is what to do:
Click on the three stripes in the upper left corner to display the side menu. Here we look for the section Offline translation.
Inside we find the entire selection of languages available in Google Translator that can be downloaded. You only have to search for the desired one and click on the arrow that appears on the right to download it.
A pop-up window will inform you of the package you are about to start downloading. In addition, it will indicate the size of the file that is downloaded. Accept to proceed.
In a few seconds you will have a notification informing you that the language pack has been downloaded and you will be able to use it without an Internet connection.
And ready. From this moment you can choose the languages you have downloaded as the source and destination of the translation. This means that you will be able to translate words, texts and so on on your computer without an Internet connection. All this with Google technology to verify translations.
