If you want to lead a he althy life, with a balanced diet and exercise, surely you have gone to an app on your mobile. During the last weeks we have seen how applications to lose weight, be in shape or eat he althy, have colluded among the most popular of the application stores. Carlos Ríos, a popular nutritionist and creator of the Realfooding movement, has decided to launch his own app. This is MyRealFood, the new application that allows us to learn about food and how we can lead a he althier life based on real food and good processed foods.
The new MyrealFood app, created by Carlos Ríos, is available both on the App Store (iPhone) and on Google Play(Android) for free. As soon as you download it, it will ask you to register with an email, password, and username. After verifying our account by email, we can access and see everything that the application offers us. MyRealFood is divided into 5 sections. The first is the community tab. Here we can see the app's publications, as well as learn about the different user groups, where recipes, tips and information about food are shared. We can also share our publications through the Realfooders category, which appears in the upper area. Before delving into the following categories, it is important that you know what is ultra-processed, well-processed or what is understood as real food.
- Real food: are those natural foods or those that have barely been processed, such as vegetables, legumes, spices, meats, etc.
- Good processing: foods that have undergone industrial processing, but are he althy foods. For example, olive oil, canned legumes, 100% wholemeal packaged bread, etc.
- Ultraprocessed: Processed food that is not real. That is to say, that it is made from a mixture of unhe althy foods or products, such as sugar, refined sands, sunflower oil. Industrial pastries, cookies, juices, chips and some frozen ones, such as Pizzas, are ultra-processed.
The second tab, and possibly the most interesting, is the categories tab. Here we can access the data of the majority of foods that we find in the supermarket They are divided by categories; oils, baby food, chocolate, recommended food, flour, etc. In each section we can see different examples of food and distinguish between real food, good processed or ultra-processed. In this way we can know what foods we should not buy. of course, in each product there is nutritional information, an indicator of why it is ultra-processed and several realfooding alternatives for that food.
Scan the products to find out if it is processed, ultra-processed or real food
The center section is a product scanner. It will use the camera to read the barcode of the food and it will tell us if it is a good processed food, real food or ultra-processed foodIn addition, it will also serve to register new products in the event that they are not available in the app. At the moment, it doesn't seem to work properly, since many of the products I've shorted are in the process of being registered or not registered. It is normal considering that the application has just been launched.
Update: Most of the products found in supermarkets, such as Mercadona, are already registered and can be scanned using the barcode.
The tracking category is also very important. We can record our daily diet to have a history of what we have eaten during the day, week or month. In addition to knowing how much type of processed food we have eaten and how much weight We have come down carrying a good diet. Finally, the profile option. Here we will be able to know our publications, the followers we have and our favorite products or recipes.
The truth is that the Carlos Ríos application works very well. The interface is very friendly, in the purest Instagram style. The information is very relevant and the options that the app includes are more than enough to know what food we eat and how we can lead a he althier life. I miss some features, such as the ability to see the posts from the Ralfooding account on Instagram. Despite the negative points, this application becomes one of the best alternatives to take care of our diet. In addition, we must take into account that this is an application that has just been released, so it is normal that we see that some features and functions are missing, which will most likely be added later.
