Facebook says goodbye to its Stories for groups
Last December, Facebook launched Group Stories, allowing users to create stories and share them within a group. Nine months later, the social network has confirmed that it will close this function. It will do so from next September 26,so there are only a few days left to enjoy it. It's not entirely clear why this decision was made, but considering that stories tend to deal with personal issues, exposing them to groups doesn't make them as intimate anymore.
Facebook group stories have allowed us all this time to create stories and share them within a group. They are like the conventional stories of Facebook itself or Instagram, only that they can only be viewed by members of a group to which they belong and in which they have been published. It should be noted that closure is limited to groups only, meaning users will be able to continue using their own profiles to create and share stories individually.
These are not the only changes that Facebook has made related to groups in recent months. Last August, without going any further, the company eliminated the possibility of creating chats within them. Current chat messages may be available to read, but as of August 22, they can no longer be written to. Likewise, changes in the classification of the groups were also announced in August, both in the public and in the private ones. The purpose of this is to make it easier for users to understand the degree of privacy of each one of them Thus, groups are now public or private. And within private groups, administrators can choose between two modes: hidden (formerly known as a secret group) or visible (formerly known as a closed group).
So if your group was secret, it has now become a private group hidden from search. In the case of having a closed group, since last month it has become a private group visible from the search engine. This new configuration has not changed the way the group works or the way the contents are viewed. Public groups are still available to everyone, and private groups are only available to accepted members.
