The vast majority of users still feel that Skype is the perfect application to make video calls for free. What's more, many believe that Skype it is only used in business and that view is far removed from the current situation. Skype is getting better and its goal is none other than to compete with popular messaging platforms like Google Duo or WhatsApp. Microsoft knows that it cannot miss the opportunity to give visibility to one of the best purchases in its history.
In its last update, Skype has added several new features to make it a quality competition for this type of application. Users can now save draft messages, send multiple photos or videos in one post, preview media files and more.
Skype continues to update itself to compete with WhatsApp
These new features have reached all applications on the platform, both on desktop (Windows and OS X) and in the Skype mobile application. Not only can you save drafts, you can also flag messages by right-clicking and long-pressing in the writing field. Those messages will be stored in the new “Bookmarks” folder.
The latest update also makes sending photos or videos easier. When you want to send multiple photos or videos to a group of friends or family, Skype will automatically organize them into an album so they don't clutter up the group chat thread. You'll even be able to preview photos or media you've sent, just in case you're sending the wrong file.
Another novelty that has arrived in this latest update is the use of the split window in the desktop version of Skype that allows you to access your contact list and conversations separately, avoiding any type of confusion when communicating with several contacts at the same time.
Like all kinds of messaging apps that are migrating to tools with many more uses than making video calls, it makes sense for Skype to make these changes as soon as possible so as not to be left behind in the race. New features are now available in the desktop version of the app.
