Be careful with the new WhatsApp update, especially if you have children under 16 who often use the application to keep in touch with the family. The instant messaging application will apply a filter so that all those under 16 years of age cannot continue using it. This filter will be applied within Europe, while in the rest of the world it will continue to be as before, that is, allowing the use of the tool from the age of 13. This is confirmed by the official WhatsApp website itself in its 'Frequently Asked Questions' section.
If you are under 16 years old… Goodbye WhatsApp!
Within the WhatsApp FAQ we can see a section called 'Minimum age to use WhatsApp' It explains that 'If you live in a country in the European Economic Area (including the European Union) or in any other country or territory that is part of it (collectively the European Region), you must be at least 16 years of age (or older, if required by law of your country) to register and use WhatsApp'. However, if you live in a country outside of said European Region the minimum age requirement becomes 13 years of age or the minimum age established by the government of the country in question.
It is also added that even if you have the minimum age to use the service, you may not have it to accept the Conditions of the same, for which reason the help of mother, father or guardian.
If you live within the European Region and you need your child, under 16 years of age, to continue using WhatsApp, you should look for another alternative in terms of instant messaging tools. The best alternative that we can think of is Telegram, since this application does not detail, within its Conditions, that it has a mandatory minimum age to start using it. In addition, in Telegram you have, as in WhatsApp, the possibility of sharing the location, in real time, for fifteen minutes, one hour and 8 hours. This way you will continue to know, at all times, where your child is and be calm.
So you know, you should keep in mind that if your child is under 16 years old they will no longer be able to use WhatsApp. Luckily there are other equally valid alternatives!
