How to download Android security updates from the Play Store
Table of contents:
Android has a problem with other mobile systems like iOS. With so many different devices and manufacturers, it is very difficult to control everything that they do with their operating system. Each manufacturer must update devices and improve them which is a huge investment of time and money. Sometimes the problem is time, but in many others money can also get in the way of a manufacturer being able to update its entire catalog in a reasonable time.
Google knows this and has been working on this for years, trying to create a security system that manages to tackle the problem. After Project Treble has failed, Android Q will mark a before and after when it comes to Android security New Android security patches will arrive through the Google Play Store, and not through software updates on your phone. That means that, regardless of the Android version you have and mobile model, you will receive security patches quickly.
Play Store security patches will only arrive from Android Q
Unfortunately, this change will not apply to older phones. Only those phones with Android Q (or at least all those that come with it as standard) will enjoy this feature. All mobiles with previous versions will not be able to enjoy this change due to the differences in architecture of the previous operating systems.
This new project, codenamed Mainline, looks like it will finally end Android's biggest security problem, relieving manufacturers of some pressureand making Android fragmentation not a major problem.
How to update security patches through the Play Store?
To do so, you need to meet one requirement: have an Android version greater than or equal to Android 10 (Q). Security patches will automatically reach your mobile, just like Google Play services do. So you don't have to do anything at all.
The mobile will show you a notification indicating that a Google security patch is available for your mobile and all you have to do is click on Download and Install. It will take a little more time than updating an application and you will have to restart the mobile but when you complete this process you will be enjoying a much more secure phone
