How to prevent Instagram from consuming all your Internet data
One of the main problems for many users is running out of data before the counter resets to zero. Although the operators are increasingly offering rates with more gigabytes, the high multimedia content of some applications causes us to fall short, and before the end of the month we have no choice but to pull bonuses. That is why any new data saving feature is greatly appreciated. Instagram has thought of us and has just announced one, although for now only for Android devices.
To date, Instagram only offers the possibility of activating the "Use less data" option, an option that ultimately ends up affecting the user experience on the platform, since images or videos they may take longer to load. Now, the social network will allow us to control if we want to download content using mobile rate data and WiFi,only when we have connected to a WiFi network, or disable downloads forever. The objective is none other than to save data so as not to end up with nothing and having to stop using the app for it.
The function is not available yet, but it will be activated in the next few days. As we say, at the moment only for devices with the Android operating system. To familiarize ourselves with it, the company has explained how to activate this new function. It is a very easy process. The first thing you have to do is open Instagram and enter your profile. Once inside, click on the three horizontal bars located in the upper right corner.
Then tap Settings, Account, Mobile data usage. Choose "High Resolution Media Files". At this point it will be possible to choose between three options:
- Never: Instagram will never show you high-resolution images or videos.
- WiFi only: Instagram will only show you high-resolution images or videos if your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- Mobile data + WiFi: Instagram will show you high-resolution images or videos if your device is connected to mobile data or a network Wifi.
Function is limited to Android. We don't know if it will come to iOS, but it is normal that we will also see it on iPhone soon.
