Google Trips will close on August 5
In recent times Google has decided to close a series of services, such as Google+ or Inbox, leaving hundreds of users orphaned. The last closure was announced a few hours ago and affects Google Trips. The company's travel application will be locked on August 5,as confirmed on the official Google Trips support page. Until that day you can continue using the app and forward your reservations and notes by email as usual. As of August 5, we imagine that it will first be removed from Google Play and then stop working.
Google Trips was born three years ago with the aim of becoming the best travel guide and thus competing with other services such as TripAdvisor or Tripwolf. Basically, among its main functions are offering information to the user about which places they can visit, what things they can do in each destination, how to get around, or what are the best restaurants or cafeterias to have a drink. The application also shows reservations, allowing the user to save those places that they do not want to stop visiting.
Since its launch, Google Trips has had almost no updates, except for some new features such as recommended videos and blog articles related to each site. Its interface has always remained faithful, avoiding the Material Design redesign or support for dark theme, if available in the rest of the company's applications. Now with its closure, many will begin to look for alternatives, especially if they are interested in knowing information about the destinations they visit and everything they can do in them.
For now, and until August 5, you can still continue using Google Trips and maybe you'll be in time to use it on your next vacation. Your planning options will continue to be accessible in the rest of the Google apps. For example, the places to visit or itineraries in Google Maps or the location of reservations in Gmail. After all, Google Trips duplicated some services that we can perform in other company apps.
