The new design of the Google Play Store is here
Table of contents:
During the last few weeks we have seen how the big G updated some of its most important apps to dark mode, since Android 10 Q will be compatible with black tones to save battery. But while some apps received dark mode, others hadn't even been updated with the Material Theme, a new design concept Google announced last year with the arrival of Android 9.0 Pie. Google Play Store is one of the apps that needed to be updated, possibly the most important. Now, and after months and months seeing different design tests, lgets the new version of the Google app store.
The design change of the Google Play Store is very, very big. We say goodbye to the greenish tones of the upper area to welcome a completely white interface , with icons of the same shape and with a new navigation bar. Now the categories are located in the lower area, in a bar that allows us to jump from games to applications, movies or books. Of course, the sub-categories (most popular, paid etc...) are still on the top page.
In the app lists we also see changes. Different applications are no longer separated by a line, but are listed in a list with smaller icons and reduced textIf we enter the application we see how the install button appears larger. In addition, with much more precise information about the app. The opinions section remains intact, with small changes in the design and typography. The settings panel is very similar to what we have already seen in previous versions, with a white background and the removal of the lines that separated each application. Overall, a much more minimalist and intuitive look. In addition to consistent with current Google applications. Unfortunately -and at least for the moment- it is not compatible with dark mode .
How to get the new Google Play design now
The new design comes with version 1.15.24 of Google Play. This update comes over the air, and it could take a few days or weeks to reach your device. Fortunately, there is a little trick to have the new design already. First of all, it will be necessary to download the APK from our Android mobile. You can click on the version number to go to the page. Click on download APK and wait for it to be downloaded to your device's internal memory (it has a weight of about 11 MB). Then, click on 'open' and run the installation. It is important to have the box for unknown sources activated. If you do not have it activated, you will get a warning and clicking on the option will take you to the system settings so that you can activate it. Then, go back to the installation step.
Once the new version is installed you will see that the Google Play Store remains the same as before. Don't worry, there is still the last step. You must go to the system settings and click on the applications option. Then search for Google Play Store and in the 'storage' option click on 'clear cache' (or empty memory depending on the device). Finally, click on 'Stop' or 'Force stop' and confirm. When you return to the Play Store you will see the new design applied. Don't worry if you think it won't work properly as it's not a beta version.
