If you've used Google Maps in the last few hours, you may have noticed that some new icons have appeared. This is a new function that the company Google has launched and that offers users to know the location of fixed speed cameras on the road.
The official announcement that Google was working on this functionality came just a few months ago. The fact is that Spanish users are already beginning to enjoy it, even if it is not in the majority. As you know, in Spain it is perfectly legal to know where the fixed speed cameras are located, not the mobile ones.
Hence, there is no legal problem in notifying users if there is any radar installed along their route. Today we will tell you how to activate this function and start using it on your device.
See fixed speed cameras on the map
What we will see when we start Google Maps and select a destination point will be the usual route, in addition to a series of white camera iconsThese will be added to the symbols that we normally already find on the maps and that indicate traffic jams, due to works or accidents, if these occur and cause traffic jams on the roads.
To obtain more information about the radar in question, all you have to do is click on the camera icon. Although it is very important that we do it only if we are not driving and we are in a position to pay attention only to the phone, which will mean that you are not behind the wheel.
By clicking the radar button,a floating window will be activated that will inform us about the characteristics of that radar. At the same time, the last update date on the radar in question will be indicated here, which will indicate if we are dealing with recent and verified information.
But, how can we know if there is a radar without looking at the screen? Well, very easy. You won't actually have to do anything. It will be necessary, yes, that you have activated the voice instructions. In this way, the Google assistant will tell you out loud that you have a radar nearby, which will undoubtedly help you to be aware of the maximum speed on the road. You will not commit infractions and also you will not endanger your life and that of the rest of the people who are circulating.
How to activate this option in Google Maps
The first thing you should know is that, despite the fact that this informative function on speed cameras has already reached some Spanish users, not all have received it. At the moment the feature is being tested to a small portion of Google Maps users, although sooner rather than later it will be activated automatically for the majority.
This means that even if you update the app, you won't get anything, if Google hasn't enabled the server-side feature yet. Please note patience and wait. Most likely, speed camera information will be launched in all versions of Google Maps in just a few days.
