We knew that one day they would arrive and they are getting closer. Facebook bought WhatsApp for a large amount of money and to date this tool remains unprofitable. The solution to monetize the most popular messaging platform in the world is to integrate ads and states seem to be the perfect place to do it. WhatsApp statuses came to the application after the success of Instagram Stories and this is the perfect place to integrate ads.
Facebook has not yet monetized the platform but we know it is necessary, since offering free services is something that never ends good. WhatsApp has already confirmed in the past that the announcements would arrive and with the co-founders gone now they have a clear runway for landing but... what will these announcements be like?
WhatsApp ads will arrive through states
WhatsApp ads will reach the platform in the same way that they have done in Instagram Stories. It will be a great source of revenue for the Facebook coffers with more than 1.5 billion users and a third of them using statuses every day. Advertisers, on the other hand, will also be celebrating since in less developed countries this application is used to contact companies and obtain their services.
In fact, Facebook has already monetized WhatsApp since the launch of WhatsApp Business and its commercial API. But this new change will go further, as WhatsApp will be integrated into the catalog of existing products within the Facebook Ads Manager. We have been able to extract all this information from the Facebook Marketing Summit 2019 in which Matt Navarra has been present.
Ads are coming to WhatsApp statuses in 2020 and WhatsApp for Business will add new ad formats. But without a doubt, the most interesting thing is the addition of this product to the Facebook ads manager, from which you can manage the ads that are published on Facebook and Instagram.
Users shouldn't worry too much, if this integration only applies in the states and not directly in the conversations tab they won't be too much annoying, unless the status tab is constantly flashing with new ads.
