Group video calls come to Google Duo
In late December, Google Duo began testing group video calls. A few months later, the company has announced that they are already available to users of the application, although not for all. At the moment, they are only accessible to Indonesian users. However, we think that it will be extended to the rest of the territories where the app operates.
Video calls are limited to 4 users. That is, only four people will be able to meet on Google Duo to chat.This is the same number that other communication applications such as WhatsApp allow However, it must be taken into account that Google Hangouts allows video calls of up to 25 users, which implies that Google Duo may be able to expand this number at some point.
In a video posted on the Google Indonesia Twitter account you can see the new "Create Group" button, just below the search bar. You can select three more contacts and give the group a name, for example “friend calls”. After creating it, making a call is as easy as touching a button.The screen will be divided according to the participants that join the group, up to a maximum of four windows. Apparently a low-light mode for late-night conversations and an "in progress" feature could also be included, about which there is no data.
It is not the only novelty that is taking shape. Recently, Google Duo was updated with new improvements and features. Version 49 of the app includes a new contact screen, which allows us to make a video call, send a message or make a voice call. Also, until now it was only possible to send a video message, but with the new update we have the option to send a voice message. As with the video message, we will have a maximum time of 30 seconds to carry out the recording. Finally, and following in the wake of other apps such as Telegram or WhatsApp, with version 49 of Google Duo we will have the opportunity to develop our artistic side. We will be able to add texts and doodles to our video recordings. To do this, we will have three brushes to draw and a color palette.
