How to stop Android apps from monitoring what you say
Table of contents:
Without knowing it, we may be carrying a real spy in our pocket. There are applications that, in order to work at full capacity, need to access the microphone. How else could we send the WhatsApp audios if it couldn't record us? However, it is convenient that you look in the permissions of the applications that you have installed on your mobile which really need the microphone to work. If you see something weird, like a flashlight app, uninstall it right away.
If, on the contrary, you would prefer to have an application that automatically blocks the microphone of your mobile device, preventing applications from accessing it, we have the solution for you. It's called 'Past Recorder' and, the moment you install it, it will prevent other installed tools from accessing your microphone…in exchange for granting it to she. The main objective of this application is to record, in the background, everything you say throughout the day. Then, if you want to record some of what you said, you just have to choose the time ago for the recording to start. In short: the application is dedicated to recording everything it hears in the environment, for a maximum of 10 minutes, so that, in the case of wanting to listen to something 'in the past' (limited to said ten minutes) you can do so. In the Pro version of this application we can increase the time by 20 more minutes.
The operation of the application is very simple. Once you download and install it on your mobile, you must give it permission (you need it to block the rest of the tools) to record audio through the microphone. Once granted, you can read the tutorial they offer you. The app will automatically activate without you having to do anything. On the main screen, you will see the microphone icon and a small percentage at the bottom that marks the amount of recording done. Once it is full, the ten minutes of recording will have been completed, always offering the user the last ones to be heard.
How Past Recorder works
If at any time you want the application to show you the audio of the stored minutes you must do the following:
- Click on the microphone icon that you see on the main screen of the application.
- A pop-up windowwill appear where you can mark the time ago that you want to listen to the recording, ranging from 5 seconds to 10 minutes .
- When the 'past tense' is played, you can rename said audio clip, activate a loop so that the extract is repeated over and over again. again (great feature for musicians who want to play with samples) and share that clip with third-party apps.
- Obviously, until the application registers 100% of its capacity it will not be able to send you the full ten-minute audio
Now, we are going to check if, indeed, the application blocks the rest of the access to the microphone of other applications. We have tried to send an audio through WhatsApp and Telegram and it has been impossible for us to complete it, so yes, it works. The user must assess whether, in exchange for a single application being able to access the microphone of his mobile, it is worth blocking the rest of the applications. The application has not been updated since July 2018 and we do not know what they will do with the recordings. The developer is called Ajeera Apps, he comes from Israel and they only have that app on the Google Play Store.
