Google Routines
Google's routines came to the Android system to make our lives much more comfortable. These are different orders that we give to our Intelligent Assistant to perform certain actions. For example, if we want to simply say 'garbage', the Google Assistant reminds us, automatically (that's why routines are also called 'automations'), that we download it every day at the time we want. Let's say. Or that, for example, by simply saying 'yourexpert' the Assistant opens our web page. It is a very practical way of giving very simple commands to carry out slightly more complex sequences.
To be able to create our own Google routines we have to download the Google Home application. This tool is free, has no ads, and is 23MB in size. Once installed, on the main screen, we see one of the icons with the little drawing of a sun called 'routines'. We press it. A popup will then appear telling you where to play the routines, on our device or just on Google Home speakers. In the other sections we can try to see how some predetermined routines like 'Good night' or 'Good morning' work.
If we click on 'Manage routines' we will see some of the previously mentioned as default routines that we can modify. But let's go to what interests us, which is to create our personalized routines. To do this, click on the icon '+' that we have at the bottom of the screen. In 'When...' we have to configure the voice command that we will say, in this case 'garbage'.
In 'The assistant must' we will place what we want the Google Assistant to do. In this case 'add a reminder to take the garbage down at 8 in the evening'. Now, when we have completely saved the routine, try saying 'Ok Google, garbage' and you will see how, automatically, it will place a notice for, this afternoon , notify you that you must throw out the garbage at 8.
If we want a certain web page to open just by saying its name, we do the following.
Press the '+' sign again to create the routine. In 'When...' we say the name of the website in question, in our case, 'yourexpert'. In 'The assistant must...' write 'open the web page tuexperto.com'. As simple as that.
If, for example, what we want, on the other hand, is that when saying 'WhatsApp' the application opens in 'When…' we must write 'WhatsApp' and in 'The assistant must…' write 'Open WhatsApp'.
We can also add some other multimedia action, such as playing music, in our routine. For example, when you say 'Good night' the device sets the alarm at a certain time and then plays sounds to relax you and sleep better.
Be careful when choosing the routines since, sometimes, you have to choose very well the phrase in the section 'The assistant must…' because there are times when what we put is not effective for that the Assistant executes the exact order that we want.Sometimes we think we've chosen the correct phrase, and then when we say the word, the Assistant doesn't perform the task. For this reason, we always recommend, once the routine is created, that the user himself try until the Assistant manages to perform the action.
The best thing is to unleash your imagination and create the routines that best suit you in your day to day. After all, the Google Assistant is here to make our lives easier.
