Google shuts down its Inbox email app in April
Google is doing a cleanup, closing services that no longer interest it. This is the case of Google Allo or Google+, to which Inbox is now added. The popular email application will say goodbye to everyone on the same day as Google+, that is, on April 2nd. This has been communicated by the company itself to all its users through an email, notifying them that there are only 15 days left for the app to turn the key.
Google anticipated the closure of Inbox a few months ago.In addition, since the beginning of the year it has not received any type of update, so it is not something that has been caught by surprise. Inbox was announced in October 2014, which means that this 2019 would have been five years old. Its progression and current situation has been staggered. At first it was necessary to have an invitation to access the app, something that changed a year later, in May 2015.
At that time, the company announced that Inbox would be open to all users with a Gmail account. The truth is that, according to Google itself, the number of users who used Inbox was low. We can say that it gradually became a test bench to give it shape to some of the tools that were finally integrated into the Gmail app.
To make the switch from Inbox to Gmail easier, Google has put together a "transition guide" showing how to use Inbox tools in Gmail, as well as having similar functions in case they are not available. At the moment, the three things that cannot be carried out in Gmail are: group messages, create reminders or set emails. However, it is possible to emulate these options using other functions that are available in Gmail.
- Create reminders: If you don't want to forget to manage some emails, you can leave them as unread or set a reminder in a task app , such as Google Tasks, which is integrated into Gmail for desktop.
- Pin emails: It is not possible to pin them as such, although you can mark them as starred by clicking the star icon or using tags custom.
- Group messages: From now on, the easiest way to group messages is by creating filters or labels for your emails so that they can be Group by issuer. It may seem a bit complicated at first, but once you have configured the filters well, you will realize that the experience with Gmail changes completely.
Don't worry, because after Inbox closes on April 2 your emails will stay exactly the same way you left them. This will not affect Gmail at all. As we explained a little above, that day you will not use Google+ either, a social network whose closure was also the chronicle of a death announced. In this case, the deletion of the content will occur in stages. Be that as it may, it is advisable to download all the content of the platform before April 2 arrives. As of the 4th of that month it will not be possible to create new profiles, pages, events or communities.
