Google announced last year that Allo, Google's intelligent messaging application, would disappear in March 2019. And yes, the date has arrived. A banner on the official website of Google Allo makes it clear that it will say goodbye on March 12. If you used the application, you should know that you can download your chats so you don't run out of them. Allo allows you to download all the data before the final goodbye.
You can download all your conversations, photos, videos and files from the application settings. All your messages will be saved in a CSV file and your media will be downloaded in a compressed package in ZIP format. Take advantage of this opportunity because the closure is near and Allo will not come back to life.
Allo was born to compete with FaceTime and Skype
Google released Allo as a plugin to Duo. The idea of Allo was that it was the alternative to Hangouts and a strong rival for applications like FaceTime or Skype. However, this has not achieved it in life. Google believes that the best successor is Hangouts Chat and this year it is making deep cuts in the sector. Both Hangouts and Allo are going away forever.
Allo has never really gotten off the ground since its launch 3 years ago. Despite released enhancements like smart replies, gifs, and even RCS messaging support, Allo has failed miserably.Duo is still standing, in fact it already supports video calls and calls on the web since last February.
We hope that Google manages to find the way and that the closing of obsolete platforms helps them to focus on a client and give the best to their users. We know that the world of messaging has very strong and large rivals in the sector such as WhatsApp or Facebook, but Google also wants its piece of the cake and a good client integrated into Androidmight be the best output. Google has one of the largest platforms on the market but doesn't have a powerful messaging app like iMessage on iOS.
