Hangouts can no longer be downloaded to Wear OS watches
Table of contents:
As you already know, Hangouts is close to disappearing What many don't know is that Hangouts will not disappear as such, but rather which will give way to its closest replacements, which already exist in G Suite. Hangouts is about to disappear this year and individual users won't be able to use it. Another determinant that this is the case is its non-availability for Google's smartwatch operating system, Wear OS.
If you have a Wear OS watch and try to download the app, Google Play will tell you that Hangouts is no longer supported on your deviceThis means that you will not be able to find or install Hangouts on your Wear OS in any way. At least officially. If you use ADB and install an old APK of Hangouts on Wear OS you will get it, but it is not a suitable method for all audiences. This method requires a PC, commands and knowledge that some users do not have.
Hangouts about to disappear forever?
Leave it, if you're trying to install Hangouts from Google Play, it's no longer possible to do so. And if you search from the watch itself, neither. Hangouts no longer appears and the first alternative you can find is Messages, the app that was intended to be a direct replacement for this first one. Google says Hangouts is not compatible with your device and nothing else.
If you're wondering what the Hangouts alternatives will be, we'd like to let you know.Hangouts will slowly migrate to Hangouts Chat and to Hangouts Meet, both of which are apps that are now available in G Suite. However, these apps are not yet available for Wear OS but we know that in the future they will have a version available with this platform. Chat and Meet are now possible thanks to Wear OS integration, but as a "separate" app.
What happened to Hangouts?
No one really knows what happened to Hangouts. But what we do know is that Google has tried to launch separate apps that could compete against the big rivals to beat, the Facebook apps. These apps have not finished succeeding. Only a RCS customer could do so in the future, but for now it is too early to confirm. In the meantime, we will continue to mourn the loss of a useful app that is gradually disappearing from all platforms.
