WhatsApp will have an invitation system for groups
Currently, if someone wants to add us to a WhatsApp group, we are inside with no other option. It is not possible to reject the invitation, or see beforehand if we are interested in the proposal or not. This could change shortly with the new function that the service prepares. This is the possibility of joining groups through an invitation, depending on the privacy settings set.
Once we received the invitation, we could decide who can add us to those groups: Everyone like now, just a contact or nobody. This last option would be the most appropriate choice, since it would keep our privacy safe, giving us the possibility of accepting or rejecting any proposal to groups Of course, at the moment in which we receive the invitation, we would have a period of 72 hours to accept it. Otherwise, it would expire and it would not be possible to join the group. In that case, you would have to wait for a new invite or use a group invite link. Please note that it would not be possible to receive two invites from the same group at the same time.
Specifically, these would be the configuration possibilities for group invitations that we would see in the privacy settings.
- Everyone: The user could always be added in groups. No invitations will be received.
- My Contacts: User could always be added in groups from their contacts. You would receive an invitation to join a group of people who are not in your contact list.
- Nobody: The user could not be added directly into groups, in any situation. You would get a request every time someone wanted to add you to a group.
You could manage the Group invitation function in WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups
As we explained before, this function is not yet available, although everything indicates that it would be activated in the next beta updates of iOS. We will be very attentive to give you all the information.
