If you are a father, uncle, or live surrounded by children, surely you know YouTube Kids. YouTube for the little ones in the house gives us a lot of peace of mind when it comes to leaving them in front of the application. Not only because the content it offers is allowed for them , also for its different functions, among which are a timer, as well as the possibility of enabling or disabling the search for videos in the event that we want to have greater control.
If you still don't know in depth how YouTube Kids spends it in action, and you want to know some tricks to get the most out of it, keep reading. We reveal five tricks that will come in handy for you and the little ones.
1. Configure search
YouTube Kids gives you the ability to turn content search on or off. If you activate it, the minor will have the possibility to search for new videos that interest them available in the app. By turning it off you'll mimic their experience, but have more control over what they're watching. However, please note that the YouTubeKids team reviews everything that's uploaded to the platform, so that what is broadcast is allowed for them.
When you first launch the application, you can select whether to enable or disable automatic search. If you registered a while ago, you allowed it, but now you want to change it, you just have to enter the settings of the app by clicking on the padlock that appears right at the bottom of the screen the. Before you will have to go through a mathematical test (complex for children under 7 years). From the options displayed, go to Settings, Privacy, Unblock videos.
2. Set the timer
Imagine that you want your child to use the mobile or tablet for an hour and not go beyond that. YouTube Kids also allows you to set a usage limit, so you can better control the time your child spends in front of the app. To set the timer you have to go back to the application settings and go to the timer tab. Once inside, set the time limit you want. The maximum is 60 minutes, so if you want to let him see something else, once that time passes you will have to manually activate the time again.
Note that when the set minutes have passed, the app will be locked and your child will not be able to use the service anymore.
3. Pause playback history
The YouTube Kids settings allow you to deactivate the option that allows the app to use the new videos that are watched or the search terms that are recommended to the child. If you really want to have total and complete control of what your child sees, we recommend that you activate this function. Access it from your child's profile, under Settings, My children. The system will ask you to enter your Google password.
Once inside, go to the bottom and click on Pause playback history. This box is disabled by default.
4. Choose a profile picture
When your kids see the default YouTube Kids profile picture, they may not want to be a giraffe and prefer another type of animal or figure. You can show him the options, by clicking on the profile photo (in the upper right part) and entering edit (just below the preset image). There are many different images, from a very cute toast to a unicorn with hooves,or a panda bear that doesn't leave its sheet.
5. Customize the content of the app
Did you know that you can customize the content of the app based on the age of the minor? This means that YouTube Kids will show more children's videos if the age range is between 3 and 6 years, than between 10 and 16, for example. This is important, because if your child is only 5 years old you certainly don't want them to see videos for older children yet. Although keep in mind that anyway, everything that appears on this service is allowed for minors. It would only be a question of learning, better as long as you go little by little.
This is why it is important that you change the age of your child as he grows up and continue using the application. You can do it from your own user profile. In the same way, if you have two children with different ages, it is best that each one of them have a different profile and not the same one for both. You can create a new profile within Settings, My children in Add a new one. Enter your Google password and create a new profile with the child's name, age and date of birth. Logically, if what you want is for the content to adjust to the age of the minor, it is important that you put the exact age and not an approximate one.Once you create this new profile, when you go to the My children section you will see both (one below the other) so you can change them as appropriate.
