If you feel that you are addicted to your mobile phone and want to find out how much time you spend using each application, we will tell you how you can achieve it in a few steps.
For example, there are apps that already allow us to control the time we dedicate to them each day, such as Instagram and YouTube. But there are more complete options that count the time used in all applications, and even help you control your possible addiction to mobile
After trying various options, we have decided to stick with an app called Your Hour, which you can download and install on Android. Here we explain step by step how
How Your Hour works, the app that helps you control your addiction to mobile
Once you have installed Your Hour on your smartphone, you will need to grant permissions for it to provide information about your usage. You will need to allow:
- Access to phone usage data.
- Access to notification bar.
- Permission to superimpose a counter on top of other mobile applications.
In the initial setup you can also set your daily usage goals. For example, you can set a maximum of two hours of phone use and a maximum of 60 terminal unlocks in a day.
For the moment you don't have to worry, since beyond those limits you will be able to continue using the terminal normally, but you will have warnings and statistics about the “excess” you had that day.
If you prefer, you'll also have the possibility to automatically block some apps. From the settings menu, as we will explain later, there is an option to prevent access to a certain application if you exceed the limit that you have set.
Every night and every week you will receive mobile usage statistics, how many times you have unlocked it, how many minutes you have spent using it, and in what category of user you are (from "not at all addicted" to "totally addicted").
Another advantage of Your Hour is that it has available a notification that you can leave fixed on the notification barThanks to this option, you can check at any time how long you've been using your phone and how many times you've unlocked it throughout the day.
How to know how much time you spend in each app
One of the most interesting features of Your Hour is the possibility to know in real time how much time you spend in each app.
Every time you open a phone application, an overlay counter will appear that will show you in real time the minutes and seconds you have been in that day within that app.
By default, Your Hour sets a maximum limit of 30 minutes per day in each application At first, the counter will appear green , and it will turn orange as you get closer to 30 minutes. If you over time, then the counter will be red.
You can set specific limits for each application within the settings. Click on the button at the top right and access Manage App Settings. It is a part with several sections:
- In Monitoring you can select which applications you want to monitor to know the time you use them.
- In Auto Lock you can set which applications you want to be automatically locked if you exceed the limit set for that day.
- The Floating Clock section helps you choose in which apps you want the overlay counter to be displayed.
In short: Your Hour is one of the most complete tools to know the time you spend on each app and on the phone in general.
