Why does Instagram look worse on iPhone after the latest update?
Table of contents:
Have an iPhone Xr or iPhone Xs Max? Have you updated to the latest version of Instagram? If so, have you noticed anything unusual? A loss of image quality perhaps? If you answered yes to these questions, know that you are not the only one. The latest Instagram update, version 75.0, appears to have removed native resolution support from the new iPhone Xr and iPhone Xs Max This makes both images as app elements look bad.
Version 75 of Instagram hit the iOS App Store last Wednesday. Surely, in two days, there are many users who have already updated their iPhone. And, as some users have published on Reddit, this comes with a rather important bug. This only affects the iPhone Xr and iPhone Xs Max, that is, the two models that do not have a 5.8-inch screen. Neither iPhone X nor iPhone Xs appear to be affected.
Apparently, a bug in the latest version of Instagram for iOS causes us to see the interface enlarged on these devices and the images published on the social network somewhat blurryIf it has happened, it is because, for some still unknown reason, the application no longer supports the resolutions of the iPhone Xr and iPhone Xs Max. Let's remember that these terminals have a 6.1 and 6.5-inch screen respectively, so developers must optimize their applications so that they look good on these two models.
Easily rectified error
Perhaps you have updated and you do not see the difference, but the truth is that there is. A user has published a comparative screenshot on Twitter in which we can see the difference in visualization between Instagram 74 and Instagram 75. Here you have it:
Now I know for sure it's not just me:@Instagram for iOS just un-optmized for iPhone XS Max (and presumably XR) screen resolutions in their latest (75.0) update.

As you can see, the main photo seen in the image appears sharper in version 74 than in 75. On the other hand, the Instagram interface shows larger icons and letters. That is, there is a resolution failure in the application.
To solve this, and since there are iPhones with different screen sizes, Apple advises developers to use the "Auto Layout" functionThis allows you to adapt the user interface of an application to the resolution and format of the screen of each device. Hence, we say that it is an easily correctable error.
We understand that Instagram will fix the bug shortly with a new update of its well-known application. Stay tuned to the App Store for updates.
