Google Photos won't allow unlimited storage for some videos
Google Photos is one of the most used applications for saving images and videos, precisely because it offers unlimited space. The truth is that this situation is no longer so ideal for some users who store their memories in the app. Since last December 6, the company has carried out a small restriction regarding the supported video formats.
Currently, Google Photos only offers unlimited storage for certain video formats, including: mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mkv . The rest of the video formats can continue to be uploaded to Google Photos, but they will take up space in the Google Drive service. Since the vast majority of devices record in .mov or .mp4 there will be no problem to save them in the application without taking up space in the account.
The company places more impediments for very heavy formats such as VOB or RAW. The first of them is one of the most common in the storage of audio and video transfers on DVDs. A VOB file can include video, audio, sub titles, navigation content, and DVD menus all together for broadcast. For its part, the RAW format is typical of digital SLR cameras. Files in this format are very heavy, to the point that a video of only one minute it can occupy almost 10 GB.
From Android Police they assure that it is possible that many users have been carrying out some kind of trick to upload large files to the app in formats of this type, taking advantage of the free storage. The truth is that from Google they have not yet given explanations and have not commented on it. However, isn't too drastic news for most Google Photos users,as the usual standard formats will continue to work just fine.
