You will not be able to watch Netflix on your Nintendo Wii from 2019
Got an old Wii hooked up in the bedroom just to watch Netflix? We're sorry, but you'll have to look for another alternative soon. And it is that Netflix has sent an email to its users to notify them that Nintendo will "suspend" Wii's streaming video services, among which are included the Netflix channel, starting next January 31, 2019.
When the Nintendo Wii console came on the market, back in 2006, it was a success in the sector. Not only for its innovative control system, but also for its applications in the form of "channels", which allowed third-party companies to bring their services to the console. This is the case of Netflix and also of others like Crunchyroll or Hulu. 12 years have passed and it is not surprising that Nintendo has made the decision to suspend video streaming services for the Wii. The company is now betting that these types of services are more closely linked to the Wii U, which will continue to have these applications. In addition, little by little they are also beginning to be included in the Nintendo Switch. In fact, just a few days ago the YouTube app made a surprise appearance on the eShop.
