Google Maps will have information about accidents and mobile radars
Since Google bought Waze five years ago, we've been waiting for some of its most popular features to be available in Maps. It seems that our wishes will come true shortly. The service could include the sending of alerts to notify other drivers about accidents on the road,or if mobile speed cameras are placed at any point of the trip. Google Maps would already be testing this new functionality on a very small number of users, we imagine that with the aim of ending up reaching everyone.
Apparently, the reports would only be available while we were browsing Google Maps. In the lower left part of the application, a new icon would be displayed that would allow us to send alerts to other drivers. When we touched this icon, two options would appear (accidents or radars), as we can see in the filtered screenshots. It would be enough to press one of the two, the one that corresponds,to later locate the situation on the map. In this way, Google Maps would be aware of the problem and would thus alert the rest of the users who are currently using the app and are in the area.
If this test were successful, Google Maps would have the ability to offer more accurate reports on the situation on the road. Therefore, we could know in advance, before going through the place, if there is something on the route that could delay us.The goal is that we could reschedule it and not waste so much time, avoiding queues and unnecessary waiting. This is already one of the most outstanding features of Waze, which makes this app is the one chosen for our road trips.
At the moment we know that the new Google Maps functionality in tests has reached a small number of users. We will have to wait to see if Google decides to implement it officially for the rest of the drivers, or it finally remains without taking shape and without appearing in the application. We will be very attentive to give you more details as soon as appropriate.
