This is reported in the XDA Developers forum. A user explains in said forum that he has begun to realize that his oldest chats have disappeared.He has not found them archived and that, furthermore, he has been observing that the oldest chats were disappearing first and, day after day, the rest of the conversations were being struck down, one by one.
Explain that you have a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus (SM-G965F/DS) with the June security patch and have been seeing this since you installed the April patch. Also ask if other people have the same problem.

The XDA Developers thread in which a user explains that he has this problem has not taken long to be filled with experiences from other people, who have also realized that their old messages have also been gradually disappearing.
One of the users who has responded to this thread says that she has verified that the number of messages is decreasing day after day. Thus, if the total number of messages was 3,000 a few days ago, she has noticed that the number has decreased to only 2,980. She has carried out a thorough review and found thatof conversations held with other people in 2014 are none left
Some say that by making a backup and restore they were able to recover part of the messages. They did it through a previous backup, however, this caused the current messages to be lost. So in the end the remedy was worse than the disease.

At the moment, WhatsApp has not offered any explanation on this, so at this point, we still do not have any official solution. The only thing you can do is check if this is happening to you too and if so, share it. There may be something going on that WhatsApp can explain to us at some point.
