Instagram works on a function to block stories in other regions
Table of contents:
From now on, Instagram may only let you see some posts. Well, actually, it will be the users who decide if the content they share with others can be seen worldwide or exclusively in some countries In this precisely Instagram is working.
The company is testing the ability to geo-restrict both posts and stories. In this way, the creators of this content will have the opportunity to make content exclusive to certain regions, instead of making it universally available.
Jane Manchun Wong has been in charge of pointing out this possibility. She has done it through her Twitter account. The expert, who is dedicated to research on applications, explained that users will be able to choose – in the hypothetical case that this feature is finally applied – in which specific countries they want to show their contentAnd this will be, as we said, both for current publications made by users, as well as for ephemeral Stories.

Specific content, depending on location
It is evident that this feature seems specially designed for brands and manufacturers, whose purpose is to reach users around the world, but to do it, in any case, as precisely and accurately as possible.
And in this way, by being able to target their publications geographically, companies will have the opportunity to reach precisely those they who pretend to address and talk about product launches in the places for which they are really intended.
On the other hand, this will come in handy when specifying dates, especially if a release occurs only in one part of the world, rather than globally. In fact, this is not a very new feature. Social networks such as Facebook or Twitter already offer users the possibility to restrict their posts based on location.
According to the screenshots provided, this feature could be configured from the Quick Settings section, within the controls for stories and publications. What appears in the images is a section that allows you to choose the locations. When activated, a list is displayed with all the available countries, so all the user who publishes has to do is select one or several of them, because the tool offers multiple selection.

Testing underway for restricted content
The first effects of these geographic restriction tests for certain content have already been felt. Some users have been able to verify that certain publications, including images and videos, were not available for viewing. And they would receive a message that read something like: "This video is not available in your location."
It should be noted, however, that far from being available to all users, this feature is still in a very early testing phase. It hasn't been officially announced, so it most likely won't be out to everyone for a while.
This option could be very useful, for example, for content and links related to the upcoming elections in the United States, which in principle will only be of interest to users who residing in the country Or who have indicated that location in their Instagram user settings.
