Google Inbox already has an expiration date
Table of contents:
Back in October 2014, Google decided to launch Inbox, a mail application, an alternative to its main Gmail, to offer an enriched experience in managing our personal mail. Said application focused on improving the productivity of its user, being able, for example, to respond to emails in batches, postpone the reply to an email in a certain period of time or access them in a much more practical way through cards, similar to those we have on our Google Now news board.
Users embraced Inbox, from the start, as a lighter alternative to Gmail. An application that discarded any superfluous decorations or surplus accessories to dedicate itself, merely, to what really matters in an application of these characteristics. But the intentions were different, and Google had created Inbox simply as a test bed for functions that, perhaps yes or perhaps not, would later be in the Gmail application. The Internet giant never intended for Inbox to become an alternative to its parent application, Gmail.
Final goodbye to Inbox
Everything has changed now that Gmail has gotten a major makeover, both in design and features. And it is that some of the exclusive functions that made Inbox something unique had made the leap to Gmail. This set off the alarms of all Inbox users, perhaps Google was already thinking of closing it, since its 'test bench' could have reached its usability limit. Google rejected this assumption, claiming that Inbox was an app that was here to stay. But, in the end, it was not like that.
According to the information technology site The Verge, Google will permanently close Inbox in March 2019. Until that date, all Inbox users will have the opportunity to migrate their mail from one application to another . When the final transfer is made and Inbox is already part of Google's history, we will probably see some of the exclusive functions of Inbox that it does not yet have, such as grouping emails in batches. This is a function very dear to Inbox users because, for example, we can have all the emails related to the same trip grouped in a chain. There is no word yet on when this feature would be coming to Gmail.
New features in Gmail
These are the most important new features of the new design of Gmail.
- One more design clear, modern and clean, resembling, finally, the material design lines of Android
- A lateral add-on bar that increases our productivity, being able to host applications such as Google Calendar, Google Keeps, the application Google Tasks, etc.
- View and download attachments without having to open email. We can also take these files to Google Drive.
- Actions before opening the email If we place the mouse over one of the emails on the main screen we can perform different actions such as archive it, delete it, mark it as unread, or postpone reading it until you have more free time.
So now you know, if you usually use Inbox you have until March 2019 to enjoy it. Start the migration now and say goodbye to Inbox.
