If you are a Gmail user, you will know that in the Google email inbox, messages are grouped by threads To many users They find it useful because they can follow all the messages that have been exchanged from the same space. Especially since many times, the messages sent and received in the same thread are linked to the same topic.
But it's not always like this. There are other users who prefer to have the messages ungrouped. That is, they are not saved as threads of the same conversation.Until now this was impossible, but Google has just announced that it is now possible to undo threaded conversations in Gmail, within the iOS and Android applications.
And it's not complicated at all. If you are interested in turning this option off to view messages separately, please follow the instructions below.
How to undo threads in Gmail
One of the most important additions that Gmail has implemented in recent times has to do with improving views of threaded conversations. However, it is clear that this feature is not to everyone's taste. Since quite a few people ask how to disable it.
Well, it seems that Google has finally listened to users and starting today, they offer them the possibility to deactivate the option in the Gmail application for iOS and Android .
1. Access your Gmail application. You can do it both from any of the two operating systems mentioned. If you don't see the feature yet, you may need to update the app, although you should initially see it automatically with no issues.
In any case, if you don't see the option, we recommend the following:
- Go to the app store and search for Gmail. You can do it both from the App Store and through the Google Play Store.
- If there is an update pending, please install it as soon as possible. Click the Install button and wait a few seconds for the process to finish.
2. Given this step, you can now access your mailbox again to deactivate threaded conversations. Press the Menu option (located in the upper left corner of the application).
3. Next, go to the Settings section > General settings.
4. Uncheck the box for Conversation View so that emails from the same conversation are no longer displayed together.
From now on, all the messages you receive will be classified separately in the inbox, regardless of whether they are part of the same conversation. And, if you are one of those who get lost in the threads, this is a good way to be aware of all the messages you have received as new.
How to undo threaded conversations in Gmail for desktop
If you access your Gmail email both through the mobile application and from the desktop version, we have to tell you that even if you have made the change in the app, the conversations will continue to be grouped together on the web.
If you're interested still having them ungrouped, outside of a thread, you'll have to modify the settings from the settings section again. To do this, follow these instructions:
1. Enter your Gmail for desktop.
2. Once inside the inbox, click on the Settings section. It's in the upper-right corner, shaped like a cogwheel.
3. In this section, make sure you're inside the General tab If you scroll down, you'll see that there's a feature that says Conversation View. This is the option that sets whether emails on the same topic should be grouped together or not.
4. Here you only have to select Enable conversation view or Disable conversation view. This last option is the one that will ungroup the messages in thread.
5. Before leaving, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the button Save changes. And ready!
