Google Photos is beginning to group those images of parties or events. That is, creates a kind of selection with related images that have been taken in the same place and with the same mechanics. Photos makes one of an algorithm that recognizes the scene and time to group these images. The groupings will be displayed in the Photos section. A thumbnail and a small icon will appear in the upper right area of the image. This means that there are more photos of that celebration, meeting or event. The photo with the best detail will be shown with a star at the top. We can choose and select the one we like best through a carousel of images that appears in the upper zone.

According to Android Police, it was a user who reported this new option. Therefore, this feature is slowly coming to all Google Photos users.
