How to watch HDR videos on YouTube from your iPhone X
Users of forums such as Reddit or MacRumors have begun to point out that YouTube is offering support for HDR content to be played on the iPhone X. HDR videos (High Dynamic Range, in Spanish) have a more wide range of colors and luminosity, as well as a much more natural and realistic contrast. This system also allows high-quality video playback regardless of the screen format in which it is played.
To be able to watch HDR YouTube videos on the iPhone X we must have a certain version of YouTube.Specifically, the number 13.17 that we can find in the official Apple store. Obviously, to play YouTube HDR videos on our iPhone X we must select videos that are recorded on this system. The rest of the videos will be seen as they normally have been. And how do you know if a YouTube video is recorded with HDR technology?
There are channels on YouTube where we can more easily locate HDR videos, such as The HDR Channel. When we open a video on YouTube, we are going to press the gear icon and see what different quality ranges it offers us. To be able to see it in HDR we must locate if 1080p60 HDR appears. It will look like what we can see in the previous screenshot, but the HDR key should also appear. If not, we will see the video without the effect.
Note: although Apple, on its official website, lists the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as compatible with HDR technology, the screens they carry are not 'Super Retina ', so any HDR video played on these terminals will not be viewed in true HDR.
Thanks to the appearance of the 'Super Retina' screen of the iPhone X, users of the new Apple flagship can enjoy on their screens videos with colors, as we said, much more natural, a more realistic contrast and generally less dark tones.
