It is important that mobile applications have a good accessibility section, that people with special abilities such as the blind can use it without problems . And more when these applications are related to maps and explanations on how to get to our destination. Imagine what a blind or visually impaired person must feel in the network of metro lines. And when the lines are multiplied, much worse.
In aid of all people who have vision problems comes Metrociego Madrid and its mobile application, a project that began on Kickstarter last year and managed to exceed the amount required to carry it out, 3,000 euros.
How is Metrociego Madrid
This application is currently only available for iPhone phones and is intended to guide visually impaired people through the network of Madrid Metro. Within Metrociego Madrid we can find the following tools.
- Home screen: is structured in two rows, with the numbers and colors corresponding to each line. The colors will help people with low visibility.
- Direction of the line: When you choose a line, you can select the direction in which you travel or want to ride. Each option occupies half the screen.
- Directly from the street: the application will help you follow the path between the metro station of the line you want to take and its corresponding platform.
- Correspondence information: at the moment you select the line and the direction of it you will find all the stops. With the VoiceOver function you can listen to the correspondences of all the lines.
Also, the application has just been renewed with new tabs:
- Stations: The first thing you have to do is mark in the application which station you are in. Thus, when you mark the one you want to go to, the application will guide you.
- Favorites: If you usually use the same combination of line and sense, you can save it in the favorites section to always have it handy .
