How to download the new Google News news app for Android
Table of contents:
Yesterday Monday, the Internet giant Google presented, at its I/O 2018 conference for developers, certain novelties in relation to its products. One of its applications, Google News, has undergone a major remodeling and, although the service is not available in Spain, we can use it without problems, at least for the moment. Even if you don't look for the application in the application store because, logically, it is nowhere to be found, as was the case with the now extinct 'News and weather'.
Note: Before getting into the matter, also note that the Google Newsstand application, from which we could subscribe to our favorite magazines, no longer exists. Simply, it has joined this new Google News in a publications section.
How to install Google News in Spain
To be able to install the Google News application we must go to a web page called 'Apkmirror'. The files of all the applications of the Google Play Store are stored on this website, including apps from other countries that are not available in our country, such as the Pandora radio service. Another thing, of course, is that when installed they work. In this case we have verified that yes, it works perfectly.
To download the Google News installation file (with .apk extension) just search Apkmirror 'Google News'. Once you have it on the screen, press the little arrow that you see next to the name, as it appears in the following screenshot.
Later, click on the 'Download APK' button. At that moment, it will begin to download a file that you will have to install, simply by clicking on the download.
This is what the new Google News looks like
Once you have downloaded and installed the Google News application, proceed to open it. The first thing that stands out is that, by default, no national media appear at first glance, only Americans in Spanish. If we want to search for Spanish pages we will have to locate the source in the corresponding search engine. For example, if we want to follow your expert we must look for the source in the lupita on the main page.
The main Google News screen is divided into four large sections: For you, Headlines, Favorites, and Publications.
- For you: the front page of your personalized newspaper. Google will learn from your searches to offer you the content that best suits your tastes and interests. One of the best options we have in this 'newspaper' is the 'Context' button. If we press it, we can see the same news in other sources, to see if it is false news or if it is correct.
- Headlines: An in-depth digital newspaper, with tabs for sections like USA, International, Business, Science and Technology, etc. .
- Favorites: This is where we will be able to read the news from sources we follow. We can search for the sources in the lupita mentioned above, simply by entering a keyword (for example, 'yourexpert').
- Publications: This section is divided, in turn, into two sections: 'Featured' and 'Popular' In 'Featured' We are going to search by category for the topics that we like the most. Leisure, eating and drinking, he alth and well-being... within these are the magazines and sources that we can follow. The 'Popular' tab already recommends default sources and magazines, in case you don't want to waste time looking for the ones that best suit your interests.
As we said before, the application is not available on Google Play, we assume due to problems due to the payment of the fee by Google to publishers for indexing their news. At the moment, we can install it without problems from the app store, although we don't know how long it will continue to work.
