YouTube Kids will be safer for children with its new options
YouTube Kids is the special version for children of the famous streaming video service. After some controversy over the filtering of the videos that appear on this service, Google has announced new security measures to improve the experience Among them we have new collections of trusted partners, parent-approved content, and enhanced search control.
As its own creators explain, YouTube Kids was born to provide children with a safe way to access the videos on the platform. Not all the videos of course, only those that were attractive and interesting for the little ones in the house.
However, a mix of inappropriate content creators and a glitch in the algorithm allowed some videos unsuitable for children to be shown on the YouTube Kids platformAnd while YouTube has already removed more than 8 million inappropriate videos (across the entire service, not just Kids), the company wants to offer new options to improve the safety and user experience of YouTube Kids.
Trusted Partner Collections and YouTube Kids
Starting this week, the YouTube Kids team and some trusted partners, will curate collections from trusted channels. Their content will be very varied, from arts to sports, through crafts, music or learning.
This will will allow parents to select only the channel collections and topics they want their children to access. This can be done from the Settings section, within the child's profile.
Parent Approved Content
While Recommended Collections is a way to filter certain types of content, some parents may want more control over it .
For them, Google will launch a function throughout the year that will allow us to specifically select each video and channel available in the YouTube Kids application .
Enhanced search control
YouTube Kids has always offered the ability to disable in-app search. But, starting this week, turning off search will limit the YouTube Kids experience to channels that have been verified by the team behind the appIn other words, the recommendations displayed on the screen will be much less extensive.
From Google they have also indicated that the current version, with a wider selection of content, will continue to be available Even so, they promise to continue refining , testing and improving the current YouTube Kids app. In addition, they recommend that parents take a few minutes to block and flag videos they don't think are appropriate.
