Do you really know what is in the food you eat every day? You may be eating a lot more sugar than you think, and it's not a particularly he althy ingredient.
Luckily, the realfooding initiative Sinazucar.org has launched its own mobile application, with a simple calculator that lets you know how many sugar cubes you are eating.
How much sugar do you really take daily?
The Sinazucar.org initiative was born as the idea of nutritionist Antonio Rodríguez, who set out to show graphically how much sugar we eat and how we are deceived with in the products we eat daily.
To do this, he decided to create images of well-known products next to the number of sugar cubes they contain. And always remembering that the maximum daily amount recommended by the World He alth Organization is 6 cubes (24 grams of sugar).
Now, the Sinazucar.org realfooding project comes to your smartphone. You just have to download the application from Google Play or from the iOS App Store and follow the instructions of your calculator.
You will have to indicate the amount of added sugars in the product (a fact that you will find on its nutritional information label) and the amount of product you want to eat.
The application will automatically calculate the amount of sugar you have ingested, transform it into cubes, and also remind you of the recommended maximum of 6 cubes or 24 grams of sugar a day.
How to interpret the label?
To find out what information you have to include in the application, look for the nutritional information table of the product. Look at the column of “per 100 grams” or “per 100 milliliters” and write down the value corresponding to the section “of which sugars”.
This is the number you need for the first section of the Sinazucar.org app. Then you only have to specify what you want to eat or have already eaten.
Practical example for using the Sinazucar.org app
Imagine that you have eaten a 60-gram bag of cookies and that its sugar value is 31 grams per 100 of product. Then indicate "31" in the upper box of the Sinazucar.org app and "60" in the amount you have consumed.
With these few steps, the realfooding app will help you become aware of all the sugar you're eating and teach you how to eat a a little better.
